Words

I melt into phrases punctuated
By breaths of imagery so real I can
Already touch the sensations that
Permeate through air.
Language that speaks through letters, commas,
Apostrophes all drenched in passion and
Passing emotions from experiences
Past, present and future.
My heart is here, in these words and their
Boundaries, and the unspoken that hangs
Gently in the balance between them.

Change

Pink rose swathed in violet light, cool
And lay it shivers against
The bed of damp soil in the early
Morning light. A drop of dew
Summons all the strength it can muster
And breaks against deep brown earth, the
Sweet fragrant sweat of petals who
Themselves one day too shall fall and
Be mourned. It is here that beauty
As we know it comes to an end
In this infinity beyond
Light, At this moment after the
Heavy descent of dusk, it is
Here that tears are shed, words melt into
Sentences, thoughts, dreams, and regrets. It is here that hope ends
And yet
Begins.
For in each new day, each new sunrise
There is new life. And for this we
Must be forever thankful.

A Single Moment

Soft footsteps melt

Into puddles,

Filling cracks in

Uneven

Concrete, damp air

Soaking your skin

As the drops of

Rain streak your face

Salty as tears,

And the chill of

Wind raises the

Hairs on the nape

Of your neck, your

Journey seems endless

As thunder,

Echoes overhead

Your clothes are drenched,

Clinging to your

Body, and then

Suddenly

A strike of

Lightening, A

Single moment

An instant that

Defines everything.

And you realize

That your pursuit

Is over, that all

You could ever

Hope or want for

Is in the warmth

Of where you

Started, in the

Sweet salty scent

Of home.

Untitled

Parched beauty of
Butterfly leaves
Burned crisp under
The summer sun
Crackling under
Muddy footprints
All memory of
Moisture coaxed out
Of them by harsh
Unforgiving
Rays of fire
Remembering
Drifting down slow
Reminiscing
Mother Earth’s open
Arms, almost close
Enough to caress,
Falling into
Love with
Deception, lies
Yet their beauty,
Their elegance,
And the charm of
What once was
Lingers softly
In their midst
Dissolving
Into them, their
Being.

Untitled

Torrential waters,
Murky truths swirl below
Among swimming sharks
And other razor-
Toothed foes in inky
Darkness, we are lost,
Blindly thrashing in
The storm that is our
lives, paddling with achy
Muscles to safety,
For dry warmth of earth
For solid ground. Currents
Twist and turn leading
Us, guiding us from
Above. It is not
the end but the journey
through that is us. Ours.

Hope

A light to shield the darkness,
To engulf it in warm rays
Of dreams, of things desired,
Of words whispered and long
Forgotten, in dusty old
Wooden music boxes, of
Healing splinters that dig deep
Into your flesh dripping drops
of blood, of voices fading
Into the distance, and the
Ear that strains to draw them
Closer, of caresses soft
And far away, but brought into
Being,
In an instant,
A thought,
A moment.

Untitled

Silvery strands
Softly woven
Together in
A beautiful
But deadly mix
Watch the young girl’s
Lips as she blows
Caressing the
Structure so fine
And delicate
Yet a place of
Death and terror.
It shimmers in
Moonlight glowing
Quietly yet
Bursting into
Cool nights of spring,
Sweltering days
Of summertime,
Faded autumn
Afternoons and
lonely dawns of
Winter, she lies
There in wait, the
Darkness waiting
To engulf those
Who cross over
Into her lair.

Whispers of Pond

Dragon fly kisses
Tip the sparkling
Ridges of water
In soft tranquility
The lake rests silently
Extending liquid
Fingers peppered with
Ripples of life
The faint scent of earth
Drifting up above
Slowly to mistily
Settle on surfaces
Amid the sleepy hills
And the cool dark calm
Of night.

Verrazano & I

Shimmering against the smoke gray sky
Lingering over the hungry Hudson waves
I gaze at it under the softness of
Moonlight, behind the dark greenness of the
Tip of the island it pauses over
Restless ripples of liquid vastness
Trembling under the cool breeze of midnight
And on this deep darkness time freezes solid
Bridging my soul with that of my city.

Finding myself in your pocket

A penny at a time,
Smudged together in
Copper twos, threes and fours
Pressed up against the faded
LIRR ticket
Stub with which you came to
Me, folded over a
Debit card receipt with
Which you bought me dinner
Ink stains leak onto the
Shopping list I gave you
To pick up from the corner
Store, which stands in front of
The tissues you plucked from
My box for your allergies
Which hides the crumpled
Photograph of us here,
There, today, forever.
